<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">First full week back at work this week - this working thing really gets in the way of a) creating art, and b) getting my mojo on. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I find that my mojo takes a while to get going. Once it does I am fairly prolific, but it seems that mojo is wandering in the desert, and is yet to find its way to me here in Perth.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I know that it just takes time and space, but a missing mojo is no laughing matter. To try and get the juices flowing, I have enrolled in Lifebook 2015 (you can find out more <a href="http://www.willowing.org/" target="_blank">here</a>). Now, I hear you all saying, "But Liz you still haven't finished all the classes from Lifebook 2014 yet!" Yes, this is true, but the knowledge that some arty videos and lessons are hitting my inbox every week may just call my mojo home.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So I spent some time last weekend actually creating something. It was a struggle, particularly as I still haven't unpacked and completely organised my art supplies, so I can't just put my hands on what I want when I have the urge to use it. In fact I can't even find my humungous store of washi tape - clearly I have put it somewhere "safe" - or perhaps its just gone to the same place that the "other sock" goes to after you have done a wash. It's another of life's little mysteries.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">As with previous years Tamara asks us to meditate on our <span>mot de l'année </span><span>(word of the year). This was not a tough one for me, given the upheavals I experienced through 2014, I knew some time ago what 2015 needed to be about. I've gone for a serve of "balanced & calm, with a twist of "measured" thrown in to ensure that I do not let my responses to situations ruin the balanced and calm.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So here is my little lifebook page, very simple techniques with a focus on colour:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQXesW5m9YPaTPdC_K4aapMghQY3QvQLz1Cqmx50w2rIDS7dENwrgBa1sRZchdU7hSSoRoPLvvEzGndjMlknLp18C4chYa-LXHCiEX8n3z_f8NB1wn3EIjVwxeGmnrZpx3FTGinyPZ1U/s1600/lb15w1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQXesW5m9YPaTPdC_K4aapMghQY3QvQLz1Cqmx50w2rIDS7dENwrgBa1sRZchdU7hSSoRoPLvvEzGndjMlknLp18C4chYa-LXHCiEX8n3z_f8NB1wn3EIjVwxeGmnrZpx3FTGinyPZ1U/s1600/lb15w1.JPG" height="640" width="470" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I decided that I wanted to do a triadic colour combination so I went for yellow green with violet and blue. It was a challenging triad to use, but I think I got the balance right. The envelope on the page has some aspirations for 2015 inside it. Not goals, aspirations - I don't want to be hard on myself if I don't achieve them, and I would be if they were goals.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So did you set a <span>mot de l'année for 2015?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">~Liz</span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12944982191366881893noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7843947216372393679.post-18261665605242759812015-01-01T12:38:00.000+08:002015-01-01T12:38:02.191+08:00Emergence & Happy New Year!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello lovelies,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, first thing's first - HAPPY NEW YEAR! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I must say that it is great to be looking forward to a new year settled in a new job and in a great little house.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you have probably guessed, the last 2 months have been hectic to say the least - leaving Melbourne, travelling across the country, finding a house (and getting the internet turned on - blo*dy hell that was a traumatic experience), starting a new job then hosting family Christmas at my house. Needless to say I collapsed in a heap on Boxing Day!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But the important thing is that I am finally settled in Western Australia, and have today started thinking about my art & doodling, and missing you all like crazy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">From a cursory look, there is not much in Perth in the way of mixed media (or even scrapbooking) shops and suppliers, so my online art life - and online art shopping - will have to become more active than ever.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I am yet to produce any art in my new house, I thought that I would give you a virtual tour instead. Most importantly I'll give you a peek at my new art room - that was the worst part of the unpacking, I am an art supplies hoarder!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here we go:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS7Ns9z_4xlVsXlN2hu4lx6X8HAmoNMRG5uskj9fw5o2g81_6WG0H0UCMDE6FXsJ2f5esKm4kJQDqCuBcU8z86um6qwa9dE-aw-w_Vn3D15Eksdhpd9U-X0IIurchjbuBznI7UuvQpcR0/s1600/IMG_1383.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS7Ns9z_4xlVsXlN2hu4lx6X8HAmoNMRG5uskj9fw5o2g81_6WG0H0UCMDE6FXsJ2f5esKm4kJQDqCuBcU8z86um6qwa9dE-aw-w_Vn3D15Eksdhpd9U-X0IIurchjbuBznI7UuvQpcR0/s1600/IMG_1383.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm living in a suburb called Inglewood. It's about 8 km's from the CBD so it's only a 20 minute bus trip to the office every morning. The house is typical for the area - built around 1910, red brick with the all-important verandah to cool any breezes coming in the house. Like many houses it has been extended at the back and the block subdivided - but there is enough garden to keep me happy.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit-VYTl7W8POLz350oiLQd1AkCr3Ww9Lghp-uuX6QgFCtzThpGVxqUViiCxiN0B7lKAszq9v1jcf5aW20gdQGJMgIXlHXlN2dN1H0nJSzmrSfna7LsVmSEXiEoWivMHvqfR1Plek50LJc/s1600/IMG_1384.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit-VYTl7W8POLz350oiLQd1AkCr3Ww9Lghp-uuX6QgFCtzThpGVxqUViiCxiN0B7lKAszq9v1jcf5aW20gdQGJMgIXlHXlN2dN1H0nJSzmrSfna7LsVmSEXiEoWivMHvqfR1Plek50LJc/s1600/IMG_1384.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is a shot from the front door down the hall. Behind me is the master bedroom, the door you can see to the right is the guest bedroom (very important when my interstate friends want to come and visit). To the left is my art room, and the room you can see at the end is the original dining room, that I have converted into a large study & work area... working from home a day a week is an option for me. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Here's the study - there is a huge fireplace to the right of the picture, stuffed with bits of art.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmeFv-ssr2aOP7Bx8DQ_vLVW1Z5WEFd011uIM_B9lwoZNSRN0aUA6W6xMD612FrL7q2SeoO6kYMoHib3mmM58Py9E2-19WwRH9yzhNJxLBh-gb0ivafgKbZ_ovMav4OQz0ZdWznsVYGc/s1600/IMG_1385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmeFv-ssr2aOP7Bx8DQ_vLVW1Z5WEFd011uIM_B9lwoZNSRN0aUA6W6xMD612FrL7q2SeoO6kYMoHib3mmM58Py9E2-19WwRH9yzhNJxLBh-gb0ivafgKbZ_ovMav4OQz0ZdWznsVYGc/s1600/IMG_1385.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the extension at the back - a large living area, with the kitchen to the right.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikpTsv-b3USSM_YkECkNTilY14s-PAPtGFWhAjNKKV59VfwojK-_1o4bCwVrbtyQxEcl-FO6DdkBMAkw8-KBri2Lrl2Un3AKw5YjqiMPjj9oiPPT4WXMRLoswlNJZBHXjLkflbmO3ZGTs/s1600/IMG_1386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikpTsv-b3USSM_YkECkNTilY14s-PAPtGFWhAjNKKV59VfwojK-_1o4bCwVrbtyQxEcl-FO6DdkBMAkw8-KBri2Lrl2Un3AKw5YjqiMPjj9oiPPT4WXMRLoswlNJZBHXjLkflbmO3ZGTs/s1600/IMG_1386.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Back up toward the front of the house, here's the art room.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTbEjmJGwoCizPPHXgGzuViSiKiJ1PA-J2AN4BoRJI-EGWcXd7sFtdj7L7NpVW9HA7BkUdDzxceG8BjfRNi8tH76tpz7YRrCmWGDm60Je1QW9FhhkeLE7mw9cURdyv0drpjOjMmNhYIU/s1600/IMG_1379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTbEjmJGwoCizPPHXgGzuViSiKiJ1PA-J2AN4BoRJI-EGWcXd7sFtdj7L7NpVW9HA7BkUdDzxceG8BjfRNi8tH76tpz7YRrCmWGDm60Je1QW9FhhkeLE7mw9cURdyv0drpjOjMmNhYIU/s1600/IMG_1379.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's a really large room, which it needs to be!! The day bed ended up in here because there was just nowhere else for it to go, so as a result I have put my permanent working table under the porthole window (you can see that at the end of the verandah in the first pic).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHCnjCIgDGAQy2PZja__52zkzVo6yvjJFNDyP_VrYgLyPzpL0YN5gBv7KO75PMYjA4EEj8z5q9yKwqPDi5NgFtbLw9pwgANmzqY3cL3b3g9YWewglpXrLU2UnPm4bWPlBxnTSHJhaoEfI/s1600/IMG_1381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHCnjCIgDGAQy2PZja__52zkzVo6yvjJFNDyP_VrYgLyPzpL0YN5gBv7KO75PMYjA4EEj8z5q9yKwqPDi5NgFtbLw9pwgANmzqY3cL3b3g9YWewglpXrLU2UnPm4bWPlBxnTSHJhaoEfI/s1600/IMG_1381.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here's the other side of the room... whilst I love the mantelpiece, it is really large and sticks out a mile (they all do in this house - there are 3 of them), so my big grey metal cabinet and a bookshelf are against the wall to the right of the picture.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHCnjCIgDGAQy2PZja__52zkzVo6yvjJFNDyP_VrYgLyPzpL0YN5gBv7KO75PMYjA4EEj8z5q9yKwqPDi5NgFtbLw9pwgANmzqY3cL3b3g9YWewglpXrLU2UnPm4bWPlBxnTSHJhaoEfI/s1600/IMG_1381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6BhJb3kBazzDwF9qdCNz0PXuO-S7tCkggS6jqkee1Zd6aNS4bohWS9wh_Th1gMOjSV2TZIyzA7S8ot6mRyeH3NcWpPLzx5h_GTDNdIyhoK4JDiVRntwlLzvSPXcUORVTDt4DpsLbF-S4/s1600/IMG_1382.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6BhJb3kBazzDwF9qdCNz0PXuO-S7tCkggS6jqkee1Zd6aNS4bohWS9wh_Th1gMOjSV2TZIyzA7S8ot6mRyeH3NcWpPLzx5h_GTDNdIyhoK4JDiVRntwlLzvSPXcUORVTDt4DpsLbF-S4/s1600/IMG_1382.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The fireplace isn't working, so it has become a place for box storage. In fact the challenge with this house has been a total lack of cupboards - apparently cupboards or wardrobes were optional in 1910... I am now the queen of the flatpack: I've built a shed, 3 wardrobes, a linen cupboard and 3 sets of shelves in the last 6 weeks. I'm refusing to get out my cordless drill for at least the next 6 months! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So now I'm off to a movie with my parents (keeping them happy), and then I am going to pull out my art stuff and fondle it - even if I am just gessoing pages it will help to start my creative juices flowing a little. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here's to an arty and creative 2015 - its going to be a good one!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">~Liz</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12944982191366881893noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7843947216372393679.post-80801897248804493522014-10-26T05:43:00.004+08:002014-10-26T05:43:54.357+08:00Art Journal Pages - the 201 progression continues into transfers<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Hello lovelies!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is the final installment in my art journal 201 progression, as it was the final class in the series yesterday. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The final class is about transfers. I know, transfers can be tough, and I probably shouldn't be teaching these in an introductory art journaling program... but my logic is that I want my students to complete the 6 classes with a toolbox of techniques that will enable them to do anything they want on a page. And transfers are an important part of being able to do that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So we do 2 transfer techniques in class - tape transfers and gel transfers. I pre-prepare skins for the students and discuss the technique, but we don't have enough drying time for skins to cure properly, so its a toughie to do in class.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<br /><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here's the transfers page from the first iteration of Art
Journaling 201:</span> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3V1V1bpE0VhOl49Xqiv0GODZ-QvkX4WEAbw3nvi8X5SzfmzlSDGHB0zbiTq1_uaBLFoQWh2h1vvmFhiY3ekAJQcu54Hzxr-PY2hCN7xEu3oDmv0uoSxK6JbA4S9LaHXs-9q40XKjhht0/s1600/class+6+exercise+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3V1V1bpE0VhOl49Xqiv0GODZ-QvkX4WEAbw3nvi8X5SzfmzlSDGHB0zbiTq1_uaBLFoQWh2h1vvmFhiY3ekAJQcu54Hzxr-PY2hCN7xEu3oDmv0uoSxK6JbA4S9LaHXs-9q40XKjhht0/s1600/class+6+exercise+-+Copy.JPG" height="154" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and
here's the second. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5QsIh_kyft6ysNLaiNk5-xMTRmJfqdmKif4Wg8Qu3uffpsJWx4c7jr71neCjC_14Sy3cQtS8Sb7g0bdysb9bVQeO9Ifas6hUfDLqca7cpX9SyQGQZJDLIYNnVFYUWYlIt-Zbu7kYGr4M/s1600/IMG_1307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5QsIh_kyft6ysNLaiNk5-xMTRmJfqdmKif4Wg8Qu3uffpsJWx4c7jr71neCjC_14Sy3cQtS8Sb7g0bdysb9bVQeO9Ifas6hUfDLqca7cpX9SyQGQZJDLIYNnVFYUWYlIt-Zbu7kYGr4M/s1600/IMG_1307.JPG" height="256" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This page has a bit more collage than the previous, as I want to introduce the students to the concept of mixing their techniques. </span>Often I find that they will compartmentalise and have a page of "texture" and then a page of "transfers". In Art Journaling 202 we start to explore the ideas of using multiple techniques on pages as well as mixing up our techniques and media.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So I will be a bit quiet on the blog for the next few weeks. The packing men arrive early tomorrow morning (7.30 am), to move my house interstate, and I have to clean before my tenants move in. I've got a day at the races Saturday, and then its off to Perth to house hunt in a week before starting my new job. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Things around here are crazy, cray-cray, mad! It's 3 days until the moving company arrive to pack my house... and I am still frantically trying to get things done.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So you may remember the photo of my art studio whilst I was in the throes of filming my last art journaling 201 classes:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is what it looks like now:</span><br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO24kus4wNwhbRHgHRGwxmxi0Wt3VyplbBzOrTMKddYG7F8VqXxpxVE2nCtIijS6O9Qgg1ml0hszvLI0oB2WAN2rucj36XyajfQceE18CyhtM6wigYRUAgjlaSCFZgof6JH5jmolqJHgY/s1600/IMG_1310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO24kus4wNwhbRHgHRGwxmxi0Wt3VyplbBzOrTMKddYG7F8VqXxpxVE2nCtIijS6O9Qgg1ml0hszvLI0oB2WAN2rucj36XyajfQceE18CyhtM6wigYRUAgjlaSCFZgof6JH5jmolqJHgY/s1600/IMG_1310.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and here are its contents...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The trolley contains class materials for my final 201 class in Geelong tomorrow. There are still about 100 pots of paint that must have their lids individually taped and then bagged and sealed into plastic containers... but that's a job for Sunday.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What is scarey is the small amount of art supplies I will have available to use whilst I am searching for a home in Perth. I am limited to this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqyLjphhwdRSQm9g_JmykEUapFtxhINaKpdvZyoVWXWGiRuNWP7k-Xo0T3te8aTtHQ4dGB2kB_FjUxIxyO-UsGiI3_OUL8Y4-ESq7h_FwgQWh9BDY380PI0oCz6su7-NZNfqo9fTf8Ul8/s1600/IMG_1313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqyLjphhwdRSQm9g_JmykEUapFtxhINaKpdvZyoVWXWGiRuNWP7k-Xo0T3te8aTtHQ4dGB2kB_FjUxIxyO-UsGiI3_OUL8Y4-ESq7h_FwgQWh9BDY380PI0oCz6su7-NZNfqo9fTf8Ul8/s1600/IMG_1313.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I will have to be extra creative with my very limited supplies - and I could be homeless for a month.... so possibly not much to see here during November. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here is the state of my main living room - note the TV cabinet being used as a dumping ground for items that have come out of cupboards and are yet to be packed...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNvyC-SNCA2dVq3_Apw9uDoRGUVd3uUzRMt5T1UMilcsQ3Snxw9N-uLTmWsgYacuhP8J9VNhRyveX4q-En2x__g667QsL2j32sHdjxgYRTzyS1Ou5Bxqz_ljguVpuZnWUqqQxPAswkI5k/s1600/IMG_1314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNvyC-SNCA2dVq3_Apw9uDoRGUVd3uUzRMt5T1UMilcsQ3Snxw9N-uLTmWsgYacuhP8J9VNhRyveX4q-En2x__g667QsL2j32sHdjxgYRTzyS1Ou5Bxqz_ljguVpuZnWUqqQxPAswkI5k/s1600/IMG_1314.JPG" height="300" width="400" /> </a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">But I certainly have the cleanest (and barest) pantry in the Southern Hemisphere!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Well its time for some more art journal progression. It's Class 5 - Texture.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I really love creating all kinds of texture in my art journaling.
There is something soothing about a page you can feel as much as you can see
it. I love taking my books and flip through them, sometimes just to feel the
pages.</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Actually, I even think, next to making the pages, the
flipping through the books is the biggest perk of having an art journal. I made
many paintings over the years and I usually create lots of texture in them.
Don't get me wrong, I love making them, but when they are done, they are done.
You hang them somewhere and that's it. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</span>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<div class="MsoNormal">
Next to the tactile nature of art journals, I love that they
are small, all different, open to experimentation and a great way to practice
new techniques. I can just go in, do something when I feel inspired and move on
when not. They are patient and there is no pressure. The beautiful thing is, I
don't even have to like what I did. There are no mistakes in art journaling.<br />
<br /></div>
</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here's the "extreme texture" page from the first iteration of Art
Journaling 201:</span> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCLQUALNw8esnfW47l4q-S4S8lcVR7CnBRUc10uEz0LH6Cba14nsja1uDVzIvRsV9jidnwaoPp6qDxTEpkwnWKb6daiE60febD5V9WPw-7ZcFPgJsBqlPOyLW8OaXi7MDJZ20xLHCipQ0/s1600/class+5+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCLQUALNw8esnfW47l4q-S4S8lcVR7CnBRUc10uEz0LH6Cba14nsja1uDVzIvRsV9jidnwaoPp6qDxTEpkwnWKb6daiE60febD5V9WPw-7ZcFPgJsBqlPOyLW8OaXi7MDJZ20xLHCipQ0/s1600/class+5+exercise.JPG" height="178" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and
here's the second. It's very similar, as this technique is always going to provide a fantastic finish. </span><br />
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYHAD6pp6aqWlnhsQ4b2jT9L2z9kri-wEh9F-MwYArKUqnF5xNOpIn8imESvSzbEklGj2g2Ay98umYJkumpo2-gSteTHjxUxpgklmnEZ_i7xfdZg1jgXZE7XD_1lxcQwdzYqH3cnErQGM/s1600/IMG_1299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYHAD6pp6aqWlnhsQ4b2jT9L2z9kri-wEh9F-MwYArKUqnF5xNOpIn8imESvSzbEklGj2g2Ay98umYJkumpo2-gSteTHjxUxpgklmnEZ_i7xfdZg1jgXZE7XD_1lxcQwdzYqH3cnErQGM/s1600/IMG_1299.JPG" height="256" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This was the original homework page from this lesson:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4he7LbXOUC_9lRbPYY_Y4JXlIvFkb8XOth-rvfQjVMEVpKMrIyJ51U8078nYUGj9gKSgU6uvGlYZaVALuezhc6NZfVPhoacrjEPNB3F6miSrpQ0lUu9RszN9vRkesphSRfNL0Ue_Kd8U/s1600/class+5+homework.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4he7LbXOUC_9lRbPYY_Y4JXlIvFkb8XOth-rvfQjVMEVpKMrIyJ51U8078nYUGj9gKSgU6uvGlYZaVALuezhc6NZfVPhoacrjEPNB3F6miSrpQ0lUu9RszN9vRkesphSRfNL0Ue_Kd8U/s1600/class+5+homework.JPG" height="176" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> And this is the "new" homework page:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0za2qU4yVLgEyfbMTeEPc24W_E9G7AtGYk-wuBSzoJAwqrgyu1nJ3YDpYiSBMkqiY8N_KUErcK72TdtrFnegBkTGv3CUUbaVEtoXdR5kn1WuuoTbwXf12cBJ6DuZ68Qz_nVUD1okpuI/s1600/IMG_1300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0za2qU4yVLgEyfbMTeEPc24W_E9G7AtGYk-wuBSzoJAwqrgyu1nJ3YDpYiSBMkqiY8N_KUErcK72TdtrFnegBkTGv3CUUbaVEtoXdR5kn1WuuoTbwXf12cBJ6DuZ68Qz_nVUD1okpuI/s1600/IMG_1300.JPG" height="256" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I decided to go mad with colour again with the homework in an attempt to really highlight the embossing paste and whipped spackle trilobites. The Trilobites stencil is a new one from <a href="http://store.scrapbook.com/cf-tcw501.html" target="_blank">Crafters Workshop</a>, and is super fun (I love using skeletons & archeology in my journal). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I have a little treat for you today. A new series of videos demonstrating how I alter my journal. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is a bonus lesson for my 201 students to help them when the need to learn how to thin out pages - primarily because the last lesson was on embedded "extreme" texture, and so nowmany of mystudents will have a journal that will no longer close properly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The videos also include a full demonstration of preparing a page background, inserting transparencies and discussing how to add a fold.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">All great techniques / know how for you to have in your toolbox!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">You can find all my free videos on my vimeo channel <a href="https://vimeo.com/channels/749518" target="_blank">here</a>, or under the tutorials section of my blog <a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/search/label/tutorials" target="_blank">here</a>, or you can watch them by clicking on this post title and bringing up the whole blog post.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Well its time for some more art journal progression. It's Class 4 - Collage!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I love to collage - it's a go to thing for me if I have an artistic block. I love to leaf through magazines and cut stuff out for later. Just immersing myself in colour helps to set my muse free. Here's the class page from the first iteration of Art Journaling 201:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOhqcvhtxeXHb-1i-MOUByVh09qGtab5mkdsaH_8uybLQkm6cNU86NBtMHPDK4b0BZ4LattSLBj8H1DdZD9Jn1AUzw91lUSYvCAZ9sozOA32wn7j9nUDAemGVa0wh2v94R6_ys65BdGbw/s1600/class+4+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOhqcvhtxeXHb-1i-MOUByVh09qGtab5mkdsaH_8uybLQkm6cNU86NBtMHPDK4b0BZ4LattSLBj8H1DdZD9Jn1AUzw91lUSYvCAZ9sozOA32wn7j9nUDAemGVa0wh2v94R6_ys65BdGbw/s1600/class+4+exercise.JPG" height="640" width="179" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and here's the second. It's very similar, but I think that the finish is better. I've used more transparent gesso as layers on the way through, and have had more practice with the vagaries of magazine pages and matte medium (less wrinkles).</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> And this is the "new" homework page:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPZqNDXf1uao5VzQXaFobok5L0F4ucaOtWykl01uftGi0ow0fJfm2ZUwnL5-pTEMhkVezwbUWSmBQx6i75x7XtBFuHZrMYv1OMWOerESZSmAJxugoeesZkHocYao0T08WWcz-1fxkD6nY/s1600/IMG_1272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPZqNDXf1uao5VzQXaFobok5L0F4ucaOtWykl01uftGi0ow0fJfm2ZUwnL5-pTEMhkVezwbUWSmBQx6i75x7XtBFuHZrMYv1OMWOerESZSmAJxugoeesZkHocYao0T08WWcz-1fxkD6nY/s1600/IMG_1272.JPG" height="258" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I decided to go mad with colour this time, but did take some inspiration from <a href="http://www.gustav-klimt.com/The-Tree-Of-Life.jsp#prettyPhoto[image1]/0/" target="_blank">this</a> painting by Gustav Klimt "tree of life". Klimt is the perfect muse if you are interested in playing with collage!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Some music to inspire you - I've got a nostalgic 70's vibe going on at the moment!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5MhOZt5-Jl8?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I had bought <a href="http://thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com.au/p/journal-soup.html" target="_blank">this</a> class by Kate Crane last month (before I knew that I was moving), and have completed the first 2 classes. Both classes feature houses, hence the music!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuYMtr-kVONyC5oQ36rTFJFX5oHHhyrndsToFTjBnGhGSwvCjocHOAVR65ASqLG52yAYyZASMfq4zfNLTyzd0UurMxnKbxH53Swsc27n_L1s2OYSEYaTFj59G28aWeL1vxoX2rmYRMJOc/s1600/IMG_1290.JPG" height="414" width="640" /> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Kate's background techniques are great fun to do, and as an artist & teacher she is not afraid of using colour, which I appreciate. I trialled a product I found in (one of) my favourite art shops,a reasonably priced gesso panel. I must say that it is lovely to work on, as well as being only 5"by 4" so you can achieve a result really quickly!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Do yourself a favour and check out Kate's <a href="http://thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">blog</a> whilst enjoying the music :) </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Im8zYhFB0JA?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe>
Well, change it is a coming.... I'm on the move.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">After 12 years living in Melbourne, and almost 20 years living on the East Coast I'm heading back to Perth to live. I've been offered a job that I really can't refuse with one of the electricity companies there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So, I am frantically organising a move of 2720 km - that's about 1700 miles in the old money. To give you some perspective, its the equivalent of moving from New York to Texas (literally and figuratively!), or from London to just past Istanbul. Here's a map, even google thinks it would be a long drive (hence I am flying).</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrPm6QzmI33noxOYcvx0_1Efltq-CU-p94OubGq1Zp61GcJKBHprs1wSrnc_z_IMbeT8BMm4_9UufxrrkMri0sPYd3vktFwIluSD8jk0z5zxQq_KerKkR46PqdX1eJtDZrD-2qcWmOtDo/s1600/Google+Maps+-+Mozilla+Firefox+7102014+105909+AM.bmp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrPm6QzmI33noxOYcvx0_1Efltq-CU-p94OubGq1Zp61GcJKBHprs1wSrnc_z_IMbeT8BMm4_9UufxrrkMri0sPYd3vktFwIluSD8jk0z5zxQq_KerKkR46PqdX1eJtDZrD-2qcWmOtDo/s1600/Google+Maps+-+Mozilla+Firefox+7102014+105909+AM.bmp.jpg" height="251" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">My house here in Melbourne is now on the rental market, and hopefully I will have a tenant before the end of October.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">But of course, renting my house out means rental inspections... so my studio has had to go from this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrmywMG2PsYxyNvTBEq6his2IFuWJaFgpa5uHLbS_B2o9191PJN9oort0Ocegp19bulJJWWsIoiAzOnbBNg8QFphOY59PUB8VLr4h_s4sRduLGOSqMgYuO6Qr2z6W3qE-KnXEjwlE5IRo/s1600/IMG_1301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrmywMG2PsYxyNvTBEq6his2IFuWJaFgpa5uHLbS_B2o9191PJN9oort0Ocegp19bulJJWWsIoiAzOnbBNg8QFphOY59PUB8VLr4h_s4sRduLGOSqMgYuO6Qr2z6W3qE-KnXEjwlE5IRo/s1600/IMG_1301.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">to this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr0uJmrvqU-8DomR06mUaKTnA4XrS_F1tIsLItiN-fIhrQVhVXduTvvl_mTruwfhSBvQAFJI4RJpeWSNpZhp0HJW4FvudWZdZ7g8dQCdlNvvprhvys5hhEPgY9VsvBgQWaIEIRH9aeALQ/s1600/IMG_1288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr0uJmrvqU-8DomR06mUaKTnA4XrS_F1tIsLItiN-fIhrQVhVXduTvvl_mTruwfhSBvQAFJI4RJpeWSNpZhp0HJW4FvudWZdZ7g8dQCdlNvvprhvys5hhEPgY9VsvBgQWaIEIRH9aeALQ/s1600/IMG_1288.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">AND HAS TO STAY THAT WAY!!!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Do you know how hard it is for me to keep my studio area neat and tidy and to produce things sans my extra working desk. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I'll keep you all updated on progress, as well as posting some art that I have been able to do on my tiny desk...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPczcykuBn57QXnFB0LvTNCpbXEGZauAwFyEhUCtoUyeQKr7pJhqyf5kMO66yespjGBi1aTVh6crzFemBj1Lwb01cLB15gKOvyW1117wzp3pn2Ri9Ooe6LbRb0NjgqgziSGJV7rBYMYc/s1600/hurstonquote_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPczcykuBn57QXnFB0LvTNCpbXEGZauAwFyEhUCtoUyeQKr7pJhqyf5kMO66yespjGBi1aTVh6crzFemBj1Lwb01cLB15gKOvyW1117wzp3pn2Ri9Ooe6LbRb0NjgqgziSGJV7rBYMYc/s1600/hurstonquote_lowres.jpg" height="370" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So it has been both a frantic and totally relaxed couple of weeks since my last post.
I turned 45 and to celebrate / commiserate / ignore / forget I spent 5 days near the beach & wineries - drinking & enjoying with friends! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I managed to get a little bit of art done while I was away - including road testing some new (to me) products and I will blog about that in my next post.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here are some pics from my retreat for you... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Where we stayed:</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So I spent 3 days at the first ever <a href="http://www.art-is-you.com.au/mysitecaddy/site3/artis...victoria.htm" target="_blank">Art Is You</a> Mixed Media retreat in Melbourne at the end of August.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It was AWESOME! To my lovely Melbourne friends and students who I didn't see there - you totally missed out!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I'm sharing some art
journal pages today. As you may know, I am running my Art Journal
Basics course in Geelong at the moment, and I am re-doing all the class
pages and recording the process. Of course I can't do
things in exactly the same way that I did it the first time, that would
be boring... So here is my updated progression for week 3...<br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Week 3 is all about handwriting, journal spilling and writing in general. The original page was this one:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYoCF6UeN9Ssb5qWwDhHMUpRVlqrFBSpB0kBWZdDRXXR5KVb9IG_WQJ6ImEX2qS5SDvdpy3CoIrbTNkoYyhBnPR1T47g9kYIMcWbEjfXGd-77_ojW8RHd3cOm55io6bV-rc74EWrWNwr8/s1600/class+3+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYoCF6UeN9Ssb5qWwDhHMUpRVlqrFBSpB0kBWZdDRXXR5KVb9IG_WQJ6ImEX2qS5SDvdpy3CoIrbTNkoYyhBnPR1T47g9kYIMcWbEjfXGd-77_ojW8RHd3cOm55io6bV-rc74EWrWNwr8/s1600/class+3+exercise.JPG" height="184" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and this is the "new" version. You may recognise this from my <a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/product-review-fude-ball-ranger.html" target="_blank">Fude ball disaster</a> post earlier this month. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HidkVRgBcdKUtayKmJuV1skgjUGCY1TzwJ2PxtcDQ7Iy3HXMXtlUJF93wjuGvDP1K6YDU7ssLnmrlt7hCaxOhh7eQbEQrJ6s_O6ovclFPM_SPBcQgjws02HAUC3cOzEzBt1Kc26vkk0/s1600/IMG_1012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HidkVRgBcdKUtayKmJuV1skgjUGCY1TzwJ2PxtcDQ7Iy3HXMXtlUJF93wjuGvDP1K6YDU7ssLnmrlt7hCaxOhh7eQbEQrJ6s_O6ovclFPM_SPBcQgjws02HAUC3cOzEzBt1Kc26vkk0/s1600/IMG_1012.JPG" height="256" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This was the original homework page from this lesson:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLB46vL9fTDnJfpz0N8_VnqUrI67zdLQuUCrzkAkdKr2Adhogpls8Ak7f0ic_OzbQ7LgXYTEbZnPRnv5k8JTlDMtmbomvJ-3DUmwqFa0NLf-RMHKe-Ox2S_n3Y6EN7Kk2QJqCn_Tv-Cak/s1600/class+3+homework.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLB46vL9fTDnJfpz0N8_VnqUrI67zdLQuUCrzkAkdKr2Adhogpls8Ak7f0ic_OzbQ7LgXYTEbZnPRnv5k8JTlDMtmbomvJ-3DUmwqFa0NLf-RMHKe-Ox2S_n3Y6EN7Kk2QJqCn_Tv-Cak/s1600/class+3+homework.JPG" height="202" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">And this is the "new" homework page:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoAiW6o55QyYPPg9a-WVpgdIYX4e4BhEZyzFdg5SGb09W-Gq8Mw__9pbFhbbIvWpX00qyWp2-RBpvcI6MVIdwUzHKV3CTUZn7U6pKxcHkoPKk3_NWHAWLk6vQ_epxjthPnsBt6MrGl2ls/s1600/IMG_1036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoAiW6o55QyYPPg9a-WVpgdIYX4e4BhEZyzFdg5SGb09W-Gq8Mw__9pbFhbbIvWpX00qyWp2-RBpvcI6MVIdwUzHKV3CTUZn7U6pKxcHkoPKk3_NWHAWLk6vQ_epxjthPnsBt6MrGl2ls/s1600/IMG_1036.JPG" height="262" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The recreation of Lesson 4 is currently underway, but I must say that I am struggling with my deadlines this month.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I have released the first class as free video tutorials <a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/search/label/tutorials" target="_blank">here</a>, if you are interested in playing along! <br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">As I alluded to in my last post, things have been a little hectic around here in the last couple of weeks, but I have managed to play with paint and rubbing alcohol - aka isopropyl. (Here in Australia it is sold at chemists under the brand name Isocol Rubbing Alcohol).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I thought I would share, even though this is a far from "finished" page - at this stage I would classify this as a background that is 90% complete.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQa_8UtOLpnAnyOzrWjO18oDm4jsiGX9oVLKEb-L40WYDoXnNrNDcqI16-4tRGEmlZ7eP5sPU_jdX8MK4i8xsS6WUPR20SJLbtKfibGmCJW0rmXITuTim7aRSJPXkon4ta7HaNUtv21FU/s1600/IMG_1018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQa_8UtOLpnAnyOzrWjO18oDm4jsiGX9oVLKEb-L40WYDoXnNrNDcqI16-4tRGEmlZ7eP5sPU_jdX8MK4i8xsS6WUPR20SJLbtKfibGmCJW0rmXITuTim7aRSJPXkon4ta7HaNUtv21FU/s1600/IMG_1018.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is a technique that has been around FOREVER! I remembered playing with this years ago and I wanted to test and see how some of the newer paints (i.e. paints released in the last 5 years) would work with this technique. </span><br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I gessoed my page and decided on Goldens High Flow paint. We used to have to thin paint down before using this technique, but with the highflows that's not necessary as they are already thin enough to be used in an airbrush.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Paint layer of the highflow onto your page. While wet drop the rubbing alcohol onto the page using a pipette. Don't be afraid to use plenty of the rubbing alcohol. The paint "runs away" from the alcohol so wherever you drop the rubbing alcohol the layer beneath will show through.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The secret to this technique is to make sure that each layer is thoroughly dry before adding another. Here's the page after 4 or so layers. Note that you can still see the gesso in some sections at the bottom of the spread? That's the point of this technique - lots of layers with a bit of every one peeking through somewhere! </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS1pUZxrTvh-5QbRzzj09D_u1k1qds69Mt1yWiBgCHCph1bC0EFsDAxGYeki1yZQX7iCDbSbGNleJMaUcnxDRB5fZdeYPOCmfJA_a2E7iQR7yX3uINyixe9wbvVmC-Dsx1yY8H0kBiP38/s1600/IMG_1019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS1pUZxrTvh-5QbRzzj09D_u1k1qds69Mt1yWiBgCHCph1bC0EFsDAxGYeki1yZQX7iCDbSbGNleJMaUcnxDRB5fZdeYPOCmfJA_a2E7iQR7yX3uINyixe9wbvVmC-Dsx1yY8H0kBiP38/s1600/IMG_1019.JPG" height="640" width="408" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Just keep on going until you have a background that you like! There is a slightly glossy feel to this page as a result of using the goldens paints (they aren't completely matte), which comes up really well, and could be stamped onto with Stazon if you were doing a card. In this case however, I think that before I complete this spread in my journal I will cover this background with either clear gesso or matte medium so that I can get a bit of tooth on which to add my foreground elements (whatever they may be).</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4vIMews08PUA7su9vaFB1Gpk5aD2wOD94hZ4wpMkJcqr23QLCqk5RwIXB7Vdy16YeshxSi-oQ-RykgNtk7IJIPv6ibZ1KNV0h3tb4-Vf5tUfQuws-m1kUPvtAc_w4-XQAeIFPg_J1BKw/s1600/IMG_1017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4vIMews08PUA7su9vaFB1Gpk5aD2wOD94hZ4wpMkJcqr23QLCqk5RwIXB7Vdy16YeshxSi-oQ-RykgNtk7IJIPv6ibZ1KNV0h3tb4-Vf5tUfQuws-m1kUPvtAc_w4-XQAeIFPg_J1BKw/s1600/IMG_1017.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So even if you are flat out with work or just generally struggling to find the time to create because, you know... life..., you can spend a few minutes every day over a week making a fabulous background in your journal!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I hope you are all well? I've had a hectic time since coming my last post - clients for my paying job having various "emergencies" that require my IMMEDIATE attention. Despite these "emergencies" being completely self-induced, my clients feel that I should share in the pain of their inactivity.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">*sigh*</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Anyway onto some more interesting things, it was 202 class on Saturday - yay! My fabulous friend <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/rosiemcleod/" target="_blank">Rosie McLeod</a> was teaching a page this month, a page that had us all breaking out the watercolour paints and Micron pens!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUEE7u5dvx_jgsgWOuD6aMs5PZOTjhQnQhUeiN9oajATr0kP_eyV1JRVXidbGR9WATYUNzUhglvradyuGpHannp6HnUCOhbSilDLjalIcfA7WwU5tsMYuvdKZiyuvjfCNweUpeU9y_Y2A/s1600/IMG_1015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUEE7u5dvx_jgsgWOuD6aMs5PZOTjhQnQhUeiN9oajATr0kP_eyV1JRVXidbGR9WATYUNzUhglvradyuGpHannp6HnUCOhbSilDLjalIcfA7WwU5tsMYuvdKZiyuvjfCNweUpeU9y_Y2A/s1600/IMG_1015.JPG" height="448" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here's Rosie working her magic:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8WKpLqfrLJQWieDOYg-mvSNvwRM8ik_zwksk46oAGHJnE3okWeyBysPhqIvINCcw4LkyRXHQGA-DLQ0gdJ1pHQKTGvp1sqknY-6GpYtBm56hqEuADQqYXt4hhSu_9IyvQOQ1Ns-AqaSE/s1600/IMG_1023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8WKpLqfrLJQWieDOYg-mvSNvwRM8ik_zwksk46oAGHJnE3okWeyBysPhqIvINCcw4LkyRXHQGA-DLQ0gdJ1pHQKTGvp1sqknY-6GpYtBm56hqEuADQqYXt4hhSu_9IyvQOQ1Ns-AqaSE/s1600/IMG_1023.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been away & quiet on the blog... did you miss me? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been in Perth helping my family with a few things - year end accounts and the like, so haven't had any time to do art. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So all I have to give you today is a picture of me swinging my nephew on his new swing!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">'till next time</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It's the weekend! So I hope you are all having a wonderful time :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I was down in Geelong today teaching Class 3 of Art Journaling Basics (Art Journaling 201), and this class is all about words and lettering. It's a great class - very scary for some students, but worth the effort - there's journal spilling and learning to love your handwriting, or perhaps I should say "learning to hate your handwriting a bit less"...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">In preparation for this class I was poking around the internet & procrastinating (as you do) looking for a bit of inspiration to vary my class pages in order to film them, when I came across a fantastic lettering related TED talk.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Jake Weidman is a Master Penman - who even knew that existed?!? His art work is beautiful, but what I found really interesting is the link he makes between using a pen and how a person learns and thinks. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/85bqT904VWA?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe></span>
<br />
<br /><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Pretty cool huh!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I hope that this talk makes you think about using your own handwriting in your journal, and not always resorting to computer print-outs and ready-made ephemera. One of the messages that Jake so eloquently imparts is that if you really want to absorb something - write it down, and because we are all art journalers, we shouldn't just write something down, but make it super decorative as well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here's a few pages from my journals that incorporate hand-written quotes: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">As an update on my class pages progression, here is the page I had prepared for the first run of the Art Journaling 201 lettering class:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI5Ea7M9ow1yJWAfnvXmsChyphenhyphenQSBH4fuF3ElXLjdpK7hKdrvDkXFEYWOXkzsFnQy3nvBDgcOvu7gpsVAe3R5rVqppHapqm0h3JEV-rtTXJIHckUUZJK2rADAct3dmiuvqh3jkSSHgaTYq4/s1600/class+3+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI5Ea7M9ow1yJWAfnvXmsChyphenhyphenQSBH4fuF3ElXLjdpK7hKdrvDkXFEYWOXkzsFnQy3nvBDgcOvu7gpsVAe3R5rVqppHapqm0h3JEV-rtTXJIHckUUZJK2rADAct3dmiuvqh3jkSSHgaTYq4/s1600/class+3+exercise.JPG" height="184" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">And here is the one that I completed this week and filmed. Some of you may recognise this spread from the "<a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/product-review-fude-ball-ranger.html" target="_blank">Fude ball Disaster</a>" post. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_l7qGxz3N60Lv6faHKvqsYGBKcSQ9V28V8nNzKNakiWamW7AUYsZMSZB7gUL8zkXVhq5fSbiES9jkNs7s15GRJL7oJHf8t3erEwCVMxJ8nshQFM5vpAY7SABQFnANpE5NwHfwDdp-I7s/s1600/IMG_1012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_l7qGxz3N60Lv6faHKvqsYGBKcSQ9V28V8nNzKNakiWamW7AUYsZMSZB7gUL8zkXVhq5fSbiES9jkNs7s15GRJL7oJHf8t3erEwCVMxJ8nshQFM5vpAY7SABQFnANpE5NwHfwDdp-I7s/s1600/IMG_1012.JPG" height="256" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The techniques are obviously the same on the 2 spreads, but there are subtle differences - I was less afraid to make my focus word really really big this time, and I've gone for much stronger accompanying images - less doodley and more image oriented. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">How about trying to write and decorate a quote in your art journal this weekend? It;s great fun, and you certainly think hard about what you are writing! Don't forget to let me know how you get on - either here or on my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/INKtoxicated/1480043305560736?ref_type=bookmark" target="_blank">facebook</a> page.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I mentioned in my earlier post that I went to Echuca for artyness on the weekend. Friends and I traveled 2.5 hours each way to take 2 classes with the fantabulous <a href="http://www.limorwebber.com/about-me/" target="_blank">Limor Webber</a> hosted by <a href="http://www.hobbysewechuca.com.au/" target="_blank">Hobbysew</a> in Echuca.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I believe it's important for us Aussies to support the dwindling number of bricks and mortar shops we have in this country. Plus I love to be on the other side of the room being a student rather than teaching all the time. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I'm such a girly swot - I managed to get a photo with the teacher :)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeZuRtwkWb3JJXglO3jCESPNgYuup-CmlURASHvwJqYlah9YVOrYb11ElXNsKHSMwbkl7trOyHQxy2Hjrq6xmpCEixTTpGfvc1d_MHR3RPmXc1C9d-rnUk65GAZH-yD2cimHUiHdijypA/s1600/IMG_1003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeZuRtwkWb3JJXglO3jCESPNgYuup-CmlURASHvwJqYlah9YVOrYb11ElXNsKHSMwbkl7trOyHQxy2Hjrq6xmpCEixTTpGfvc1d_MHR3RPmXc1C9d-rnUk65GAZH-yD2cimHUiHdijypA/s1600/IMG_1003.JPG" height="600" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">But onto the classes - what did I learn? Plenty!!</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The first class we did was a 2 hour preview of Limor's upcoming <a href="http://www.limorwebber.com/product-category/online-workshops/" target="_blank">Art of Sketching</a> class. I haven't sketched a face in a while, so the practice was really good for me. She started by asking us all to draw a quick face sketch.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPkcrAxseJNflhyphenhyphen-Pdc_NlICQ0yZuSuyY9u8cdUE4f9d7mPQaUoVqhdpEuouYHAj_DCdvhLAQVzYinMy6dOixv3XcAuHN4Xlb4duSjk1KXmVbdpM5u74BLXNQNkIc2pBRBBRWcMDcN7g/s1600/IMG_1007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPkcrAxseJNflhyphenhyphen-Pdc_NlICQ0yZuSuyY9u8cdUE4f9d7mPQaUoVqhdpEuouYHAj_DCdvhLAQVzYinMy6dOixv3XcAuHN4Xlb4duSjk1KXmVbdpM5u74BLXNQNkIc2pBRBBRWcMDcN7g/s1600/IMG_1007.JPG" height="320" width="232" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Pretty rough isn't it! The head wasn't evenly shaped, the eyes were wonky, the nose too large and the ears were off-kilter (she looks pretty ghoulish actually). We then practiced individual features, refining as we went. Lips:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDSw5sIxHRLwDBzB-mGFqYVMlzm-w8FTiiJEVNbaThjkMrklJoOK93H2bWXxl7VDfgXOqSZRZmEyogMgEXs3t7USi_VMsiHwZwekribM5UsEo-Hi7i2YpSpl74r2p5GT0-_DzWW8IOGjk/s1600/IMG_1008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDSw5sIxHRLwDBzB-mGFqYVMlzm-w8FTiiJEVNbaThjkMrklJoOK93H2bWXxl7VDfgXOqSZRZmEyogMgEXs3t7USi_VMsiHwZwekribM5UsEo-Hi7i2YpSpl74r2p5GT0-_DzWW8IOGjk/s1600/IMG_1008.JPG" height="320" width="154" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> Eyes:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLew7G4o0dCBHrtAvm6fU7-820Z7sZ2LUKIWDebCnA5FFQADFQ38Wfe7T7hv0U-umYJrupjyM6BzvfpS775sDNK98Lcd45z4hQMcZSn1uC4CjfyLsAuL5GZ2v_oTLhOhVKutt9d3oSykY/s1600/IMG_1009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLew7G4o0dCBHrtAvm6fU7-820Z7sZ2LUKIWDebCnA5FFQADFQ38Wfe7T7hv0U-umYJrupjyM6BzvfpS775sDNK98Lcd45z4hQMcZSn1uC4CjfyLsAuL5GZ2v_oTLhOhVKutt9d3oSykY/s1600/IMG_1009.JPG" height="215" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> Then adding in a nose:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHD4IqifZvz7Whw8Kaply7bGKqPK-YmGRJZWQvac-uk_LC9J5mrqLSA9qvg2qlMVZSdItMJA1qHWYlhZE8RTgsSwgtwJvFQo8efvzTsXZPizrUHfF2yE9Ht0FQYYG8biLt4CapJmZi8BU/s1600/IMG_1010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHD4IqifZvz7Whw8Kaply7bGKqPK-YmGRJZWQvac-uk_LC9J5mrqLSA9qvg2qlMVZSdItMJA1qHWYlhZE8RTgsSwgtwJvFQo8efvzTsXZPizrUHfF2yE9Ht0FQYYG8biLt4CapJmZi8BU/s1600/IMG_1010.JPG" height="320" width="207" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Finally starting to put it all together:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi59Ts9R-clSbPmvDcnuJxCr8S2r0ePK43FYrTFa6gPMn5J09Looqd2HOG8bjdLywG-2bSpqLfk36a7e8H7c4_TlZ1k0dI-vufnE2l1C2gxHW3OfafUPO4gHjbD1NoQpHVmldilvBaZBEQ/s1600/IMG_1011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi59Ts9R-clSbPmvDcnuJxCr8S2r0ePK43FYrTFa6gPMn5J09Looqd2HOG8bjdLywG-2bSpqLfk36a7e8H7c4_TlZ1k0dI-vufnE2l1C2gxHW3OfafUPO4gHjbD1NoQpHVmldilvBaZBEQ/s1600/IMG_1011.JPG" height="400" width="250" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">2 hours and there's a vast improvement in my facial proportions. The key to sketching a face is practice, practice and more practice... expect to start seeing more faces in my art journals! I will probably enroll in Limor's online sketching class once it comes available, just to force myself to sit down and draw.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">We then managed a little bit of sightseeing... the Murray River is beautiful any time of year, but sunset in winter is particularly lovely. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9sErRYC02ezz517Xt8L5LDVJh3qd_2evNz208lFNMgmn6KYkXvU1CGy2pCEb4Cxlq1Mt0uMTd3XP8xIAKcSgLPWviMduCSTtelv1aFhXvsXhPiJS_PnpL8VdWQ3S_q9A7K0hv-7o-cYE/s1600/IMG_0991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9sErRYC02ezz517Xt8L5LDVJh3qd_2evNz208lFNMgmn6KYkXvU1CGy2pCEb4Cxlq1Mt0uMTd3XP8xIAKcSgLPWviMduCSTtelv1aFhXvsXhPiJS_PnpL8VdWQ3S_q9A7K0hv-7o-cYE/s1600/IMG_0991.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">After a crisp start (it was below zero degrees Celsius overnight), we headed off to do our second class: 5 hours of art journal making.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This was interesting for me as it was utilising products I don't really use a lot of, and it felt more "scrapbooky" - which I just don't do! The base of the journal was from Prima and was pre-made. What I really found interesting in the class was using the Whipped Spackle, the Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays, and rediscovering my Gelatos.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here's the cover:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw3D3BsQTSbSPB38r4mEtqlTAo2ul91tb4yJk5tdk5MAAsk6U4mITCiPF92zBU0tqDbcly1N_sfdlgPTTaMoG-S8OemlJW4aDwpRKpoJQKjLstnCp_ZI6DsCfzGIR0PIrx8ApjLQICM4Q/s1600/IMG_1004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw3D3BsQTSbSPB38r4mEtqlTAo2ul91tb4yJk5tdk5MAAsk6U4mITCiPF92zBU0tqDbcly1N_sfdlgPTTaMoG-S8OemlJW4aDwpRKpoJQKjLstnCp_ZI6DsCfzGIR0PIrx8ApjLQICM4Q/s1600/IMG_1004.JPG" height="476" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The whipped spackle is fantastic - you can see it clearly on the top right of the cover. I have long been a fan of Grunge Paste, but this product is heaps better. It's flexible like the grunge paste but much lighter so its faster to dry. It also takes the Lindy's embossing powders which is AWESOME. I will carry out a few comparative tests between the two products and blog the differences in detail for you all.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I have decided that the Flat Fabios from Lindy's are the way to go. Some of you may have watched my video (<a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/inktoxicated-art-journaling-101-lesson.html" target="_blank">here</a>) on my first play with Lindy's sprays. I wasn't too impressed with the depth of colour I was achieving. However, on the very porous surface of the Prima journal (its raw canvas with a resist pattern on it), the colours were much stronger.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I was able to get my hands on some flat shots as well, so I will do a bit of a product review on those after I have had a play. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The next page we tackled was a background of gelatos on the Faber Castell Gel Medium. I found the gel medium very thin, but it still did a decent job of sealing the surface of the page. This meant that (of course) the gelatos smooshed around gorgeously. This is where your <a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/art-journal-pages-colour-theory.html" target="_blank">colour theory</a> knowledge comes into play.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJyy4yEiOKYxcSD2jUPb90czZo4A9k4z1KXB__gqx8Uu3rLRpBDhIbuyWYnNmb39518p-RXsCYGJsytELlYHh-cj0y0Q1YIsIaZa9DHbvgpOFo2l1Mb-_LgqShAucq_w_VeXAOkSipkE8/s1600/IMG_1005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJyy4yEiOKYxcSD2jUPb90czZo4A9k4z1KXB__gqx8Uu3rLRpBDhIbuyWYnNmb39518p-RXsCYGJsytELlYHh-cj0y0Q1YIsIaZa9DHbvgpOFo2l1Mb-_LgqShAucq_w_VeXAOkSipkE8/s1600/IMG_1005.JPG" height="504" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What I didn't realise before I did this page was that gelatos can be worked into canvas - there are little Prima canvas stickers that have resist patterns on them adhered to this page, and all were coloured successfully with gelato. That's a handy thing to know :) </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The final page was some more sprays on a resist background - a repeat of the techniques used on the cover. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGAIUbpYuUj9bCG1kNxciXvX-1PJiGBEW49jV4qb8JPEf-G6oqaav2ajD_wt4F8-qCehQG927ICU7vTAiSMB2vW1ZYjgn9e34O_hH9YQ5w19AkSBtLF8n7jQEB5-IOgiSpAjOwbZ4ipBs/s1600/IMG_1006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGAIUbpYuUj9bCG1kNxciXvX-1PJiGBEW49jV4qb8JPEf-G6oqaav2ajD_wt4F8-qCehQG927ICU7vTAiSMB2vW1ZYjgn9e34O_hH9YQ5w19AkSBtLF8n7jQEB5-IOgiSpAjOwbZ4ipBs/s1600/IMG_1006.JPG" height="516" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">All in all it was a very successful weekend!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I confess, it has been 11 days since my last art related blog post.... oops!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It has been a hectic time - teaching, playing tour guide to friends from out of town, squashing 4 days of (paid) work into 3 days, starting to film another Art Journaling 201 class, and travelling to Echuca for a class with the fantabulous Limor Webber. I'll do a recap of my class with Limor Webber in my next post.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Whilst doing my art journal spread for 201 I decided to use my *new* (i.e. new to me) Fude Ball pen. I had seen this video (below) in which Dina Wakely recommended the pen. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/WR9E7Ku67Ao?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What you may not know about me is that I am perpetually in search of the perfect art journaling pen. So of course I thought - Halleluiah, someone has found the answer for me!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">not so fast.....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The pen writes really well - it is very "4WD" which is excellent, and it seems to be waterfast on a porous surface. However, I had prepared my journal page with Gesso which is not porous at all.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Once I had done my journal spilling, I left the page to air-dry for 15 minutes or so and then painted over it with watercolour paints. BIG MISTAKE! Here's an excerpt from my video where I discuss what happened... </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwVjsJK-6xfD1ljbH2NwxIxQ9R2z80OPzJz8yPPNK5nE5Nry0lH2PJzDhCFbytxHWOa0f55426dn-d3mdbmMA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Half the words in the middle of the
page washed away as soon as the water hit - and as a result the paint on the right page of the spread turned a muddy
dark colour.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I then tried to heat set the page with my heat gun. That didn't work either.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Eventually I settled on sealing the page
with airbrush medium sprayed from a pump bottle - the same way that I
would seal dylusions. The spread is not finished in the pic below, but I have managed to stop it looking like a dirty mess...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0AxvKXKzo3Q1aep-FZHHWsfhxGiztjKv9HsVAk1dzzbCys2VPYxePd2YoY015T996yVR8f5xIBNJsKlcFGcLult9xaZNTd2GhcWxml9cDDmhjzKuRKHWGfob-bNu2MF9LK30cvy9WVA4/s1600/fude+ball+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0AxvKXKzo3Q1aep-FZHHWsfhxGiztjKv9HsVAk1dzzbCys2VPYxePd2YoY015T996yVR8f5xIBNJsKlcFGcLult9xaZNTd2GhcWxml9cDDmhjzKuRKHWGfob-bNu2MF9LK30cvy9WVA4/s1600/fude+ball+1.JPG" height="301" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So, in conclusion - for those of you who have bought the Fude Ball pen, be warned - whilst it is a lovely pen to write with, it isn't waterproof on a non-porous surface. Best to stick to your Sharpie on Gesso. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">My search for the Holy Grail in Art Journaling Pens continues.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I know that we haven't spoken in a long while - our lives just get busy, and we live on separate sides of the country.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I always remember the funny, happy, generous guy from uni who was a joy to be around.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">You and Rin have suffered an unutterable loss, and I do not know what to say. I have no words of comfort, there is no comfort to be found when you lose your 3 beautiful children.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I'm sharing some art journal pages today. As you may know, I am running my Art Journal Basics course in Geelong at the moment, and I am re-doing all the class pages and recording the process.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I have released the first class as free video tutorials <a href="http://lizziea01.blogspot.com.au/search/label/tutorials" target="_blank">here</a>, if you are interested in playing along! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Of course I can't do things in exactly the same way that I did it the first time, that would be boring... So I thought that I would share my progression for you...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So here's the first colour theory page. Students make a colour wheel of their own, and put in all the relevant "colour words" like monochromatic, secondary, primary, tertiary etc. This was the first version:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqTnYZi70od4XE9D0woAw2pRpdl8aCj1b0WmB6h4yqp5HV30F5VCU3ojKhslvKvuUvEbfDom9lIHYwTZqY-dp60GqBlPcXc73v-AtpvmchTFvRpFOM9C1P3ygYS8wRPhZQnWRzMR-_MAw/s1600/class+2+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqTnYZi70od4XE9D0woAw2pRpdl8aCj1b0WmB6h4yqp5HV30F5VCU3ojKhslvKvuUvEbfDom9lIHYwTZqY-dp60GqBlPcXc73v-AtpvmchTFvRpFOM9C1P3ygYS8wRPhZQnWRzMR-_MAw/s1600/class+2+exercise.JPG" height="180" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and here is the second version!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjehW6aUpNf9q7Mj8HzaTvki3yjUcOJVInbKDFKGrTtty0klJrjYxAjXnluH0tX2mW8oYRfi7hIiiOhUG6hQPGYkvCyMGBTBlvD2hMFzLGmfAhPyD5WJZoc19iqhPBuA15iNMxDOdyJpMA/s1600/class+2+alternative+exercise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjehW6aUpNf9q7Mj8HzaTvki3yjUcOJVInbKDFKGrTtty0klJrjYxAjXnluH0tX2mW8oYRfi7hIiiOhUG6hQPGYkvCyMGBTBlvD2hMFzLGmfAhPyD5WJZoc19iqhPBuA15iNMxDOdyJpMA/s1600/class+2+alternative+exercise.JPG" height="254" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">~I love using colour wheels!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Next is a Monochromatic spread and a window cut out. First version:</span><br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-1RLFGcX5GOrVQi_B8hlzagnsXcr1-fp072vUqJolciaJWvP6CxbA1-wJK9B7KLNBcxlnBZwWy6jHc_93jOF_9b05CK8syOtnslidCFCxhLkU0_mzV9WP0fFidp270GUEAWZdoXf6Q_Y/s1600/class+2+homework+-+1a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-1RLFGcX5GOrVQi_B8hlzagnsXcr1-fp072vUqJolciaJWvP6CxbA1-wJK9B7KLNBcxlnBZwWy6jHc_93jOF_9b05CK8syOtnslidCFCxhLkU0_mzV9WP0fFidp270GUEAWZdoXf6Q_Y/s1600/class+2+homework+-+1a.JPG" height="182" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and now the second version:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvF6haDa1VnLtF9En7Teh6FUdzCKlj6MTzCR144A5G-l39FvacDQb9KZkf9jc0lDVT-xBhTnvqLlgjmmMzpwMt68_16Jz-3TFH1A7c8Qjzv3DHHrBzrPqjLuwWa0WoAviWi_VCblM7aWs/s1600/IMG_0984.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvF6haDa1VnLtF9En7Teh6FUdzCKlj6MTzCR144A5G-l39FvacDQb9KZkf9jc0lDVT-xBhTnvqLlgjmmMzpwMt68_16Jz-3TFH1A7c8Qjzv3DHHrBzrPqjLuwWa0WoAviWi_VCblM7aWs/s1600/IMG_0984.JPG" height="268" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-v8VJGMsOLdtlGrwN9ybyAEe7zkBo118oQx7PGuzPowSwtaL4BLLbAIkwth0Iywi5-VD5uJjsYFLUMuL8I3KXx6DvVUwgdtftD1AFp4NynAjYeHPq-fmJgY4e9G5vh7MO1aa0VxosITU/s1600/Class+2+-+monochromatic.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-v8VJGMsOLdtlGrwN9ybyAEe7zkBo118oQx7PGuzPowSwtaL4BLLbAIkwth0Iywi5-VD5uJjsYFLUMuL8I3KXx6DvVUwgdtftD1AFp4NynAjYeHPq-fmJgY4e9G5vh7MO1aa0VxosITU/s1600/Class+2+-+monochromatic.JPG" height="400" width="282" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Lastly the Complementary / Analogous spread. This is the "through the window" spread. In the first season of Art Journaling Basics I had the students creat a spread that was in an analogous colour from the monochrome spread and add pops of the monochromatic pages' complementary colour where they could be seen through the window. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie1H8FdDiTxaYjD3d-SynUPtI0J-QdebMhMpxx34TMqb3XusQHDLK3U0nNrS_4r7ZWg-PROy84BJk2AqMyXRF1B2oS4jX42wZJJOe196qoZseGUZ7ayoDjftg1aQHU7MzQJWq6iAxUAGk/s1600/class+2+homework+-+1c.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie1H8FdDiTxaYjD3d-SynUPtI0J-QdebMhMpxx34TMqb3XusQHDLK3U0nNrS_4r7ZWg-PROy84BJk2AqMyXRF1B2oS4jX42wZJJOe196qoZseGUZ7ayoDjftg1aQHU7MzQJWq6iAxUAGk/s1600/class+2+homework+-+1c.JPG" height="184" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">But this was a little difficult for most of the students to manage, so this time everyone is creating an Analogous page from the Complementary colour to the Monochromatic page. In my case this means taking the complementary colour of red violet - which is yellow green and making an analogous page from that colour as a start. This means that I have a page in the yellow-green to orange spectrum, mostly focused on yellow-green. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdh6jU-gi4UIZNyPzLpTt1tiYni0GnADRgjFvSAdCPc-vd0YzAzK_mkKaL3EmkzeMeYpSTFDvfOMLpFPqqZbuueGFjVFUjFqPUAoSo7Gz_zXrWHMd_CB-QSR8nNiwYUhxs8qIQrDtfjgI/s1600/IMG_0981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdh6jU-gi4UIZNyPzLpTt1tiYni0GnADRgjFvSAdCPc-vd0YzAzK_mkKaL3EmkzeMeYpSTFDvfOMLpFPqqZbuueGFjVFUjFqPUAoSo7Gz_zXrWHMd_CB-QSR8nNiwYUhxs8qIQrDtfjgI/s1600/IMG_0981.JPG" height="254" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhouLjKJh4dahxJ5zpxYeeS2eh-9pDn4pEYndhcU0uej0nly41a8EqRcK6L9xrnMX0VNgmmYtxc4n6HV1BT7tyt5JSlXOBZLIrURH5LKOt57pLiBXJjv3EjXhl7XFHo_Y5lxTJXBftsJqo/s1600/IMG_0983.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhouLjKJh4dahxJ5zpxYeeS2eh-9pDn4pEYndhcU0uej0nly41a8EqRcK6L9xrnMX0VNgmmYtxc4n6HV1BT7tyt5JSlXOBZLIrURH5LKOt57pLiBXJjv3EjXhl7XFHo_Y5lxTJXBftsJqo/s1600/IMG_0983.JPG" height="514" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Confused? I hope not, otherwise my students will be confused too.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">How about putting your colour theory knowledge to work in your Art Journal this weekend? I'd love to see how you get on.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So a little more on my trip on the weekend. Bendigo is a beautiful town, it was founded during the gold rush of
the 1850's and has that typical late Victorian Colonial feel - ornate
but yet country.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The old Town Hall:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5rC9nruvssbpk_rgmTvL4IXaXYRtHculvevVZRzax-SMqpCSxOz9D5dPzFCIWZm8xnKjcsEqrYlioAXt9LCv4rIZQitvEb7S88BLNluBNHxZEOhv1KLN_VprQt7CEIutVlBHyLDKD1hA/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+%288%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5rC9nruvssbpk_rgmTvL4IXaXYRtHculvevVZRzax-SMqpCSxOz9D5dPzFCIWZm8xnKjcsEqrYlioAXt9LCv4rIZQitvEb7S88BLNluBNHxZEOhv1KLN_VprQt7CEIutVlBHyLDKD1hA/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+(8).JPG" height="441" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> The Cathedral - as you can tell, it was a bit chilly first thing Sunday morning.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgE02rypkbY3QKdBZqYy5nUguwqcCu3yqm7qarQjBuUxNQMcWni2Mn4OTGk5Fi8mr1xRMC4j4SRJ44c-y1jELCjLWrB8fvzwO8PTk_65Y5dAEmlC08XbV01cJ14IZ_Vcaig3rrXsvolp4/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+%2813%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgE02rypkbY3QKdBZqYy5nUguwqcCu3yqm7qarQjBuUxNQMcWni2Mn4OTGk5Fi8mr1xRMC4j4SRJ44c-y1jELCjLWrB8fvzwO8PTk_65Y5dAEmlC08XbV01cJ14IZ_Vcaig3rrXsvolp4/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+(13).JPG" height="640" width="420" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There's a huge park in the middle of town - its very lovely...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGdaj-SnOApyev6PocCWNCqzM3KLZTXR0vKdMbHegee1c1nwl1zpShyphenhyphenmh989OUWrrbXPjPnH96WfyFDxjjUB58CwEsevjhr_zai9h1ag1Z0ShWXXCRcR_00JA5GzJ5QtsJkd0qzcazdm8/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+%25286%2529.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGdaj-SnOApyev6PocCWNCqzM3KLZTXR0vKdMbHegee1c1nwl1zpShyphenhyphenmh989OUWrrbXPjPnH96WfyFDxjjUB58CwEsevjhr_zai9h1ag1Z0ShWXXCRcR_00JA5GzJ5QtsJkd0qzcazdm8/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+%25286%2529.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">and
is home to the biggest bat (flying fox) colony I have ever seen. This
was just one small section of the park. At first I thought the trees had some
sort of strange gourd shaped seed pods ... until some of them moved (and the smell wafted
toward me)! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbVvktuB1c5_6ghQ5hTIOlRMkL0ZmE0tjRQZblXxqdfUXU0gxDJr6VSz6beKu2tyAPfbxhcyfYask4N_gMMTZ7J3ehKSfOeVS0cOtoUzH1ZUUI6gwJW98PC1MmIoCAnNGXrsAXcBxoYjM/s1600/Bendigo+2014-07-06+(7).JPG" height="416" width="640" /> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There
is a huge Chinese influence in Bendigo. A lot of Chinese immigrants
came to pan for gold during the gold rush, and they have left an
indelible imprint on the town.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">We stopped at the Chinese Museum which has some fantastic public art... </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
